  • Solomon Strother, uncle to U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt.     4,839 Miles In His Shoes

    During a drizzly Super Drill at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, January 13, 2019, the familiar taps echoed on the floor as U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Francis Strother rounded the corner into his office where Tech. Sgt. Nathan Clark and I eagerly awaited to hear his story unfold; his 4,839 mile journey from Liberia to The United States of America and how he became an ambassador for the North Carolina Air National Guard.

    More Than Just a Recipe

    Food services Airmen from both the North Carolina Air National Guard and Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, New York, combine recipes for annual training during January drill in Charlotte, N.C. Members from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station were able to gain hands-on experience operating a full-service kitchen from food preparation and cooking to serving lunch in preparation for the upcoming Hennessy Award competition.

    Operation Deep Freeze

    When December rolls around all eyes are traditionally focused on the North Pole. That was not the case this year however, for four members of the 263rd Combat Communications Squadron, who spent the last month of 2018 focused on the South Pole of Antarctica and Operation Deep Freeze.

    Milestone Marked for the 145th Airlift Wing

    Every major milestone begins with a first step, for the 145th Airlift Wing, 2018 and the arrival of the C-17 aircraft has prompted quite a number of them. The most recent step includes the units participation in this year’s Joint Forcible Entry Exercise at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Dec. 8, 2018.

Family and friends of the North Carolina Air National Guard joined together Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 for a one-mile fun run/walk in honor of recently deceased U.S. Air Force Recruiter, Master Sgt. Valanda Pettis, at the fitness track located on base at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

    145th Logistics Readiness Squadron Sends Back-Up

    Following strategic safety measures, an 11-person team from the 145th Logistics Readiness Squadron is activated and sent to Kinston, North Carolina, Sept. 17, 2018, to relieve a team of North Carolina Air National Guardsmen that have been creating and moving supply pallets filled with food and water during Hurricane Florence.
