U.S. Air Force members from the 145th Civil Engineer Squadron, North Carolina Air National Guard provide training for other civilian firefighters and North Carolina National Guard Civil Engineer Fire Departments. The training, which took place July 17, 2013, is designed to prepare firefighters for a scenario in which a plane catches fire on the runway. Training consists of about 50 burns on a specially designed mock aircraft called the Mobile Aircraft Firefighting Trainer. At the Charlotte-Douglas Intl. U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Rebecca Tongen, 145th Civil Engineer Flight, gets an operations update for accountability during the 2015 Vigilant Guard Exercise. This exercise, held at the 145th Civil Engineer Squadron Regional Training Site, New London, N.C., March 6-8, 2015, is designed to measure the effectiveness of National Guard forces supporting civilian activities following a hurricane.
