NCANG C-124 during Vietnam conflict

This is a photograph of two NCANG C-124 crews in the Philippines. The story, as told to us, is that a crew was at a refueling stop at Clark AFB, needing an engine replacement. Due to time requirements for the change, another crew was sent to pick up the stranded crew. They all purchased the same hats and decided to take a photo before continuing home. These are names given for this photograph. First row: (left to right) Major Jim Cox, Navigator Col William T. Bundy, Pilot Master Sergeant George Dickson, Flt Engineer Second Row Sergeant Harry (Doby) Springs, Flt Engineer Third Row: Gen William J. Payne, Pilot Col Thomas C. McNeil, Jr., Pilot Fourth Row: Capt Ed Borden, Navigator Sergeant Wylie D. (Dancer) Lowery, Flt Engineer Fifth Row: Sergeant Gary Latham, Flt Engineer SSgt Charles Leary, Flt Steward The NCANG flew C-121 and C-124 aircraft for Vietnam related missions from August 1965 – June 1971 and flew these numbers: Cargo Tons Transported: 7,364.7 Ton Miles: 23,945,430 Cargo Missions: 805 Patients Transported: 1,517 Patient Miles: 1,089,680 Aeromedical Missions: 213 Passenger Missions: 453 Trips Landing In/Flyover Vietnam: 87 NCANG Aircrew members earned the following medals during this same timeframe: Vietnam Service Medals: 146 Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals: 48 Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals: 46 (Photo by NCANG Heritage Program) Photo: 20110802-F-HX327-001
