  • Her Hair Story

    Women’s History month this year has special meaning for women of the Air Force. As of February 10, 2021, changes were implemented to AFI 36-3093; changes allowing Air Force women to, “free the bun,” and wear their hair in up to two braids, or a single ponytail with bulk not exceeding the width of the head and the length not extending below the horizontal line running between the top of each sleeve inseam at the under arm through the shoulder blades. Additionally, women’s bangs may now touch their eyebrows but cannot cover their eyes. The changes are the result of the 101st Air Force uniform board.

  • Recruiting the Future and Living the Dream

    While the world might consider 2020 to be a bad year, there is one member of the North Carolina Air National Guard who used it to excel, that person was Technical Sergeant Nikki Morgan, a Recruiter with the 145th Force Support Squadron. Technical Sergeant Morgan was recently recognized and coined for outstanding job performance on February 6, 2021, at the North Carolina Air National Guard base, Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

    It’s one thing for an employee to acknowledge an outstanding boss, it’s quite another for two employees from separate states to nominate the same boss at the same time. This was the case however, when Tech. Sgt. Stacey Wakefield, a drill status guardsman with the 156th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, nominated his supervisor for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriotic Employer Award.
  • Top Tier Aviator

    Leaflets and food supplies fell from the sky as Tech. Sgt. Brian Wahl watched the first ever airdrop for the Afghanistan Air Force. Tech. Sgt. Wahl, 156th Airlift Squadron loadmaster, was awarded the prestigious Red Erwin Award for when he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2017 and served as an air advisor for the Afghanistan Air Force airdrop program.
