    For a brief moment, colored chalk painted the sky; overshadowing recent loss and filling the air with love. Family and friends of the North Carolina Air National Guard joined together Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 for a one-mile fun run/walk in honor of recently deceased U.S. Air Force Recruiter, Master Sgt. Valanda Pettis, at the fitness track located on base at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

    A few months have passed since the April conversion from the C-130 Hercules aircraft to the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, and members of the 145th Maintenance Group have wasted no time training as many of their Airmen as possible. The Monday following the official conversion they initiated a 90 day course with a Field Training Team to facilitated the training of 88 Airmen.

    The New York Air National Guard, along with Airmen from other units, annually participate in Operation Deep Freeze by flying in ski-landing gear equipped LC-130 Hercules aircraft to the island and dropping off supplies, cargo, and scientists involved with researching Antarctica’s climate and marine-life.U.S. Air Force Tech.
