12/08/2019 – CHARLOTTE, N.C. – -- Socks, underwear, and headphones—that was the small list of a Holiday wish for a Badin Elementary School 4th grader in rural Stanly County, N.C.
Small and meaningful necessities such as these are lacking amongst these youth; necessities we take for granted daily.
Have no fear, Santa’s helpers have arrived as men and women of the North Carolina Air National Guard Chapter 7 organization adopted the school for it’s annual Angel Christmas Tree project. The organization collected as many as 120 slips of papers with ages and wish lists, attaching them to paperclip angels that were decorated on Holiday trees between the North Carolina Air National Guard Base, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, as well as the North Carolina Air National Guard Base in Stanly County.
Members of the base in Stanly County regularly visit with the Badin Elementary School students and read stories to them throughout the year. The school was ranked in the top 5 this year for growth in a North Carolina Elementary School.
In an effort to help the families of Badin Elementary School students, this year, the gifts will be given out to the student’s parents and the parents can decide whether the gifts come from them or Santa!
Money has also been collected in the event that not all angels from the trees were selected and the Chapter 7 organization would need to purchase some extra presents however, every single angel was selected! The extra money will go to help students.
Members of the Chapter 7 organization will meet with families next weekend to bring the gifts as well as set-up a fun holiday carnival to allow the families to celebrate the upcoming holidays with festivities and food.
