Colonel Chief Master Sgt. James E. Brown

Chief Master Sergeant James E. Brown is the Operations Group Superintendent, 145th Operations Group, North Carolina Air National Guard. As the Group Superintendent, he is the Chief Enlisted Advisor to the Operations Group Commander on operational effectiveness and ensures the Commander’s directions and policies are carried out and Airmen understand and are dedicated to the mission of the command. He works in concert with other Senior Enlisted Leaders from across the Operations Group to oversee the readiness, training, health, morale and quality of life of assigned Airmen.

Chief Brown started his military career in February of 1992 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Integrated Avionics Systems Specialist on the F-16 aircraft. After completing his Avionics skill level upgrade training with the 169th Fighter Wing in the South Carolina Air National Guard, he cross-trained into Deployable Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems with the 245th Air Traffic Control Squadron. While assigned to the 245th Air Traffic Control Squadron, he held several duty positions to include Quality Assurance Specialist, Radar/Airfield/Weather Systems Specialist and Maintenance Superintendent. In 2016, Chief Brown transferred to the 235th Air Traffic Control Squadron as a Quality Assurance Specialist in the North Carolina Air National Guard and, in May 2017, was selected as the 235th Air Traffic Control Squadron Chief of Maintenance. In this position, he was responsible for managing the squadron’s deployable navigation assets, support equipment and 40 enlisted personnel, ensuring all assigned equipment was operational and personnel were adequately trained to execute peacetime and combat missions for state and federal tasksings. In 2021, following a successful career in the 235th Air Traffic Control Squadron, Chief Brown was selected as the 145th Operations Group Superintendent. Chief Brown has deployed across the globe in support of various combat operations to include OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH, OPERATION NORTHERN WATCH, OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
