1948 *First Unit, 156th Squadron receives Federal Recognition
*First aircraft, P-47 "Thunderbolt" arrives
*118th AC&W Squadron Federally Recognized

1949 *F-51 "Mustang" Fighter-Bombers replace P-47s

1950 *First NCANG Units called to active duty for Korean War Service

1951 *Rest of NCANG Units called to active duty for Korean War Service

1952 *Federal Recognition of 263rd Mobile Communications Squadron
*NCANG Units assigned to Air Defense Command

1953 *NCANG receives first jet aircraft, a T-33 "Shooting Star" trainer

1954 *First F-86A "Saberjet" Day Fighter arrives

1955 *NCANG F-86s assigned to Air Defense Mission

1958 *NCANG welcomes first female, Lt Maxine Trimmer, Nurse

1960 *Mission changed from Air Defense to Aeromedical Evacuation Transport

1961 *First Transport Aircraft, C119 "Flying Boxcar" received

1962 *C-119s replaced by C-121 "Super Connie" transport aircraft

1964 *Global Air Transport Mission assigned to 145th Air Transport Group

1965 *First of 70 airlift missions to Vietnam made
*First African American, AB Paul S. Deavers, enlisted in the NCANG

1966 *145th Military Air Transport Group becomes 145th Military Air Transport Group becomes 145th Military Airlift Group and is assigned to the newly re-designated MAC (Military Airlift Command)
*26 missions to Southwest Asia completed

1967 *First C-124C "Globemaster" arrives

1971 *Mission changes from Military Airlift to Tactical Airlift and assigned to TAC (Tactical Airlift Command)
*First C-130B "Hercules" aircraft received

1972 *First female ENLISTED Air Guardswoman, Sgt Loretta Almekinder, taken on board

1973 *NCANG celebrates 25th Anniversary
*NCANG C-130 and crew win 1st place in worldwide airlift competition
*First African-American, Paul Deavers, commissioned as officer in NCANG

1974 *NCANG personnel save10 lives in Eastern Airline crash

1976 *Founder of NCANG, BG William J. Payne retires. BG Jerry W. Cochrane assumes command
1979 *145th Tactical Airlift Group receives USAF Outstanding Unit designation

1980 *First Spanish American enlisted into the NCANG

1985 *Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) added to NCANG's missions

1986 *NCANG's 145th Airlift Group wins Volant Rodeo competition as world's best airlift crew and plane

1987 *145th Tactical Airlift Group wins Spaatz Trophy for best flying unit in the Air National Guard

1990 *NCANG's 156th Aeromedical Evacuation Flight and 263rd Combat Communications Squadron activate and participate in Operation Desert Storm (Persian Gulf War)

1992 *145th Tactical Airlift Group achieves 150,000 hours of safe flying
*NCANG evacuates hospital patients in Hurricane Andrew

1993 *First new C-130H3 "Hercules" aircraft arrive
*145th Airlift Group receives its 5th USAF Outstanding Unit Award

1994 *156th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron named ANG Outstanding Medical Unit
*118th & 263rd Combat Communications Squadrons Team named "Best in the Air Force"

1996 *NCANG personnel activated and sent to Bosnia as part of US Peacekeeping Force
*NCANG swears in its first female chaplain, Lieutenant Debra Kidd

1998 *NCNAG celebrates its 50th Anniversary
*145th Airlift Wing receives "Excellent" on Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI)
*156th Airlift Squadron achieves 176,879 accident free flying hours

1999 *The NCANG Flies 33,000 cases of food rations in 3 C-130s to flood victims and erected a tent city for 80 people near Wilmington's airport in support of Hurricane Floyd

2002 *145th Airlift Wing deploys in support of war in Afghanistan
*First female Chief Master Sergeant of NCANG selected

2004 *145th Airlift wing sends 6 ship supporting total AFE package to Kuwait

2005 *NCANG is first first airlift squadron on site in response to hurricane Katrina Relief support
*NCANG supports relief for Hurricane Ophelia

2008 *145th Civil Engineering Squadron deploys to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
*NCANG deploys to Afghanistan in support of War on Terror
